Raising a Healthy Baby

IMG_7617_edited.png

We want to widely share what have done for our second boy to be a healthy baby (see list in Figure 1).  As with all children, he is at risk for autism, but his risk is higher.  We hope many families will follow our lead and help use to improve and share our website.

Since birth, Jacob has had extensive eye contact, back and forth communication and play (Rogers 2010 & 2012). We closely tracked and taugh him his developmental milestones.  We celebrated each new one achieved.

There are a number of factors reported that may increase or decrease the risk of autism (e.g. Gialloreti 2019). We did our best to identify and modify these where possible (Figure 1). Even if autism was not preventable in our son, our interventions were done to reduce its severity if he has the genes.  Our approach has huge potential benefit.

There are a number of other interventions all children should have to help them reach their full potential, such as positive parenting and having a safe environment.

Please help us achieve our vision of "Every child should be happy, healthy, safe, and provided opportunity to reach their full potential."

1.   Extensive eye contact, communication and play

2.   No screen time, background TV, etc.

3.   Closely tracked developmental milestones

4.   Taught skills at the right time

5.   Prepared to "Act Early" if milestones were missed

6.   Provided positive parenting

5.   Provide a safe environment

6.   Mom took perinatal vitamins, iron, omega 3/6

7.   No potential toxins during pregnancy (e.g. drugs)

8.   All vaccines up-to-date for both mom and baby

9.   Breast feeding

10. Filtered air for pollution reduction
